Microdisk cavities with a Brewster notch

چکیده
The authors introduce a notched optical microdisk cavity by combining total internal reflection and transmission at Brewster's angle. corresponding high-quality modes are excitable with an attached waveguide have their intensity partially trapped in the free space of notch.

Optical Loss and Lasing Characteristics of AlGaAs Microdisk Cavities with Embedded Quantum Dots
For future experiments in cavity QED with self-assembled quantum dots, the GaAs/AlGaAs system is the most appropriate choice of material, due to the relative maturity of the growth of InAs/InGaAs quantum dots [138, 139, 140] within this system. As the refractive index of GaAs and its alloys is relatively close to that of Si (n GaAs ∼ 3.5 and n AlAs ∼ 2.9 at λ ∼ 1.25 µm), the PC cavity design of...
متن کاملBrewster angle with a negative-index material.
The demonstration and confirmation of metamaterials with simultaneous negative permittivity and permeability, and thus a negative refractive index, has resulted in a surge of interest in the reflection and refraction phenomena at the interfaces of these so-called negative-index materials (NIMs). We present a systematic study of the Brewster angle, i.e., the angle of incidence at which no reflec...
متن کاملEffects of boundary roughness on a Q-factor of whispering-gallery-mode lasing microdisk cavities
We perform numerical studies of the effect of sidewall imperfections on the resonant state broadening of the optical microdisk cavities for lasing applications. We demonstrate that even small edge roughness (. λ/30) causes a drastic degradation of high-Q whispering gallery (WG) mode resonances reducing their Q-values by many orders of magnitude. At the same time, low-Q WG resonances are rather ...
